Obverse description The obverse features the fourth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley, depicting a right-facing crowned portrait of the Queen with a fine diadem, truncation signed with the designer's initials. Surrounding the central effigy is an inset depiction of the original Australian threepence design — three upright wheat ears bound at the base within a beaded inner circle, surmounted by the legend AUSTRALIA — evoking the pre-decimal coinage heritage. The outer legend reads ELIZABETH II to the left and AUSTRALIA 2016 to the right, with FIFTY YEARS inscribed along the lower arc, all separated by beaded borders at the rim.
