| Obverse description | The obverse features the fourth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley, depicting a right-facing crowned portrait of the Queen with a fine diadem, truncation signed with the designer's initials. Surrounding the central effigy is an inset depiction of the original Australian threepence design — three upright wheat ears bound at the base within a beaded inner circle, surmounted by the legend AUSTRALIA — evoking the pre-decimal coinage heritage.
