The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank serves eight territories simultaneously — Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines — making this one of the few modern currency unions to predate the euro by over two decades. The switch from cupronickel to nickel-plated steel beginning with the KM#37a series reflects a broader cost-driven reformulation that swept through Commonwealth Caribbean coinage in the late 2000s as base metal prices spiked.
