Commissioned Officers' Mess scrip of this type was a private internal currency, issued by a military unit to control spending within the mess facility and prevent hard currency from circulating among personnel in forward or isolated postings. The Des-Cru-Pac designation points to the Destroyers, Cruisers, Pacific — a naval command grouping active during the Pacific theater — making this among the more operationally specific mess scrip issues of the Second World War.
Pink paper was a common denomination-marking convention in multi-value scrip sets, not a security feature.
