Private scrip issued by the American Club in Kifissia — the affluent northern suburb of Athens long favored by diplomats, military personnel, and expatriate executives — this note circulated internally as a substitute for small-denomination cash within the club's premises. Such tokens and paper scrip were common among foreign-community social clubs in Greece during the junta years and into the early post-dictatorship period, partly as a convenience measure and partly to keep transactions within a closed accounting system.
Kifissia-based expatriate club scrip from this period rarely enters the numismatic market; most was redeemed, discarded, or destroyed when balances were settled.
