Military Payment Certificates handled most dollar-denominated transactions in Vietnam, but individual unit clubs operated their own scrip systems outside that framework entirely. This 9th Infantry Division Officers' Club chit circulated at Dong Tam base, the division's headquarters in the Mekong Delta, where the club functioned as the primary venue for off-duty spending among officers during one of the war's most operationally intense years.
Club scrip of this type was printed in small quantities, used hard, and rarely survived — most were discarded, lost, or deliberately destroyed when units rotated out. The yellow paper stock was a common denominator across many such issues, not a security feature.
