| Obverse description | Seated allegorical figure of Marianne facing left, radiate and draped, holding an upright fasces in her right hand, with a sheaf of wheat at her left side and an anchor to her lower right, symbolising commerce and agriculture. The circular legend REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE runs along the upper periphery, with the engraver's name BARRE inscribed in small letters above the exergue. The date is prominently displayed in the exergue below a raised border line. The design is executed in a refined neoclassical style characteristic of late nineteenth-century French medallic art. |
