Additional information

Andorra issued coins bearing papal effigies under a centuries-old arrangement rooted in the 1278 Paréage, which established joint suzerainty over the territory between the Bishop of Urgell and the Count of Foix — a role later inherited by the French head of state. John Paul II's death in April 2005 made this one of the final issues carrying his likeness before the series transitioned to Benedict XVI.
