Vallalta del Maresme is a tiny municipality in the Maresme comarca of Catalonia, and this 10 céntimos note is a product of the Republican zone's wartime monetary collapse. From mid-1936 onward, hoarding of metallic currency created acute small-change shortages across Loyalist-held Spain, forcing hundreds of municipalities — including ones with populations well under a thousand — to print their own emergency fractional currency. The legal framework was loose enough that essentially any local council with access to a printer could issue.

Turró 2637 places this among the rarest category of Civil War locals. Vallalta del Maresme issued in very limited quantities, and survival rates for thick-card municipals from this region are low.
