Ulea is a village in the Segura river valley of Murcia province, with a population that barely exceeded a few hundred during the 1930s. This note is emergency municipal paper from the Spanish Civil War period, when the Republican zone suffered an acute shortage of small copper and nickel coinage — hoarding and metal requisitioning stripped the fractional currency out of everyday commerce almost immediately after July 1936. Hundreds of Spanish municipalities, many of them tiny, issued their own emergency céntimos.
The Gari Mon catalogue reference places this firmly within that documented series of local Murcian issues. Given the village's size, original print runs were almost certainly very small.
