One of hundreds of local emergency issues that flooded Catalonia after the July 1936 military uprising disrupted the national money supply. With the Republican government unable to maintain small-denomination coin circulation, agricultural cooperatives, municipalities, and workers' collectives across the region printed their own vales and tokens. Sindicat Agrícola de Rodonyà — a small farming collective in the Alt Camp comarca — issued this piece purely for local exchange, accepted nowhere else.
The perfectly square format was a practical choice common to several Catalan village issuers working with limited printing equipment and pre-cut card stock.
