Paiporta is a small municipality in the Valencia province, and like hundreds of Spanish towns during the summer of 1936, it responded to the near-total collapse of small-denomination coinage by printing its own emergency paper. The Republican government's inability to maintain metallic circulation in the early months of the Civil War forced this improvisation at the most local level imaginable — village councils became, briefly, issuing authorities.
The Turró and Gari references place this firmly within the documented Valencian Community emergency issues. These notes almost never traveled far; most circulated within the issuing municipality and were redeemed — or simply abandoned — within months.
