Comments

One of hundreds of emergency local issues that flooded Catalonia during the Civil War, when the Republican zone faced a catastrophic shortage of small change almost immediately after July 1936. The Agrupament d'Espectacles Públics — a collectivized entertainment workers' syndicate in Mataró — issued this token note to facilitate transactions within its own economic sphere, a pattern replicated by workshops, cooperatives, and municipal councils across the region.

Mataró's local issues are catalogued under the Alió reference system, which remains the standard tool for navigating the enormous variety of Catalan civil war paper. AL#470 places this among the smaller, more obscure syndicalist emissions rather than the better-documented municipal series.
