Comments

One of hundreds of small-denomination emergency notes — known in Catalan as "vals" or "moneda de paper local" — issued by collectivized enterprises during the Spanish Civil War. When the central government's coin supply collapsed in the Republican zone after July 1936, theaters, cinemas, and public entertainment venues in Catalonia were among the unlikely institutions pressed into issuing their own fractional currency. Espectacles Públics Col·lectivitzats was the collectivized entertainment authority operating in Manresa, a textile and industrial city in the Bages comarca inland from Barcelona.

The CNT-FAI anarcho-syndicalist collectivization drive of late 1936 put many such venues under worker control, making this note a direct artifact of that brief experiment.
