One of hundreds of small-denomination emergency notes issued by Catalan municipalities during the Civil War, when the Republic's inability to supply adequate coinage left local governments scrambling to fill the gap. The Ajuntament de Malgrat — a coastal town north of Barcelona — issued this 10 céntimos piece in 1937 under the same legal framework that authorized hundreds of similar ajuntament-issued paper throughout Catalonia and the Valencian region.

Turró's cataloguing of this series remains the definitive reference precisely because surviving specimens are scattered and condition is wildly inconsistent — these notes circulated hard in wartime and were rarely preserved with any care.
