Reverse description The reverse displays the coat of arms of the Spanish Republic printed directly onto the red-tinted cardboard disc. The quartered shield, incorporating the castles of Castile and the lion of León, is surmounted by a mural crown and flanked on either side by the Pillars of Hercules, each bearing a scroll with the legend PLUS ULTRA. The design is enclosed within a plain incuse circular border rule. The overall impression is bold but somewhat worn in execution, consistent with the emergency nature of this wartime issue.
