Candasnos is a tiny municipality in Huesca, Aragon — population well under a thousand even in the 1930s. During the anarcho-syndicalist collectivization of 1936–37, the CNT-AIT organized hundreds of these village-level collectives across Republican Spain, many of which issued their own local scrip when the national currency became scarce or ideologically inconvenient. This note is one result of that decentralized monetary experiment: hyper-local, backed by collective labor rather than a central bank, and valid only within the bounds of the community that printed it.
The control stamp served as the sole authentication mechanism — a practical solution when sophisticated printing infrastructure simply wasn't available.
