Comments

One of hundreds of small-denomination emergency notes — locally called moneda de necessitat — issued by trade unions, municipalities, and republican committees across Catalonia after the military uprising of July 1936 drained metallic currency from everyday commerce almost overnight. The Centre Obrer was the local UGT labor center in Camarles, a small agricultural village in the Baix Ebre comarca. That a rural workers' organization of this scale was issuing its own scrip says something concrete about how thoroughly the Republican zone's monetary infrastructure had collapsed.

Camarles notes of this type are among the more obscure Catalan civil war issues, with very limited surviving quantities documented.
