Bot is a small municipality in the Terra Alta comarca of southern Catalonia, and like hundreds of other Catalan and Spanish Republican towns, its local council issued emergency fractional currency — "moneda local" — during the Civil War after metallic coin effectively vanished from circulation by mid-1937. The Consell Municipal administered these notes as a purely local instrument, accepted only within the commune itself.
Turró catalogues this piece at #514. The thick card construction was a practical response to the near-impossibility of sourcing proper banknote paper in wartime conditions.
