One of hundreds of small-denomination emergency notes — "moneda de paper" — issued by Catalan businesses and municipalities during the Civil War after metallic coin disappeared from circulation almost entirely by mid-1936. Sala Mercè was a commercial establishment in Arenys de Mar, not a municipal authority, which makes this a privately issued voucher rather than a local government note. The validation stamp substituted for institutional credibility that a shop simply didn't have.
Gràfics Miró was a local press in Arenys de Mar, and the signature of Montserrat Costa — almost certainly a woman in a managerial or ownership role — is uncommon for these wartime issues.
