Alfarràs is a small municipality in the Lleida province of Catalonia, and this 10 céntimos note is one of the hundreds of locally issued emergency fractional pieces that flooded the Spanish interior during the Civil War years after 1936, when the Republic's central coinage supply collapsed and municipalities were left to improvise. The Ajuntament simply filled the vacuum. Turró catalogues these Catalan municipal issues exhaustively, and #102 places Alfarràs among the smaller, less-documented emitters — surviving examples are genuinely scarce simply because the issuing population was tiny and redemption volumes correspondingly low.
