Alcampel is a small municipality in the Huesca province of Aragon, and this 10 céntimos note is one of hundreds of emergency fractional issues produced by Spanish local councils during the Civil War years of 1936–1939. The Republican zone suffered an acute shortage of small coin almost immediately after the July 1936 military uprising disrupted normal monetary circulation, forcing municipalities — some with populations in the hundreds — to print their own scrip simply to enable everyday transactions.
The validation stamp is the only security measure, as was typical for these hyper-local emissions. Gari's cataloguing of this piece as Mon#72-E suggests variant status within the Alcampel series.
