L'Albagés is a small municipality in Les Garrigues, Lleida, and like hundreds of Catalan towns it issued emergency fractional currency during the Spanish Civil War after the Republican government's decree of September 1936 effectively authorized local bodies to plug the coin shortage caused by metal hoarding and wartime disruption. The Ajuntament series to which this 10 céntimos belongs is catalogued by Turró, the standard reference for Catalan Civil War municipal issues, under number 56.
At under 50mm square, this is among the smallest card-format issues in the Turró catalog — a function of the municipality's limited printing resources rather than any design decision.
