Obverse description The central round hole is flanked by the large interlaced monogram 'RF' (République Française), executed in bold relief against the field. A Phrygian liberty cap surmounts the monogram above the hole. The entire design is encircled by a wreath of laurel branches rendered in fine relief, with the engraver's signature EM LINDAUER inscribed along the lower rim. The composition is characteristic of Lindauer's restrained, modernist approach to Republican iconography.
