Reverse description The reverse presents a finely engraved panoramic view of the town of Thann, dominated by the soaring Gothic spire of the Collégiale Saint-Thiébaut set against a backdrop of the Vosges mountains. Rooftops and architectural details of the townscape are rendered in delicate low relief, conveying a strong sense of local topographic character. The legend 'F. SCHEURER INV. EBSTEIN SC.' is inscribed vertically along the left and right borders of the octagonal flan, crediting the designer Scheurer and the engraver Ebstein. The plain field surrounding the vignette is unadorned, allowing the scenic composition to dominate. The piece exemplifies the fine medallic artistry applied to French municipal emergency coinage of the First World War period.
