Obverse description Draped bust of Marianne as an allegorical figure of the French Republic facing left, wearing a radiate crown with elongated rays emanating dramatically across the field in a sunburst pattern. A Masonic-style all-seeing eye within a triangle surmounts the design at the top of the field, while a clasped hands device appears at the base, symbolising fraternity. The encircling legend REPUBLIQUE - FRANCAISE is disposed along the periphery between an inner toothed border and the milled rim, the work of the engraver Pillard.
