Obverse description Conjoined right-facing busts of Leopold, Duke of Brabant (later Leopold II), and Marie-Henriette, Archduchess of Austria and Duchess of Brabant, in jugate profile. The legend encircling the busts records their full titles and the date of their wedding, 21–22 August 1853. This commemorative pattern was struck on the occasion of the royal marriage, explaining the anomalous denomination for such a precious-metal piece. The portrait style is finely detailed in the manner of mid-19th-century Belgian medallic art.
