| Obverse description | Left-facing laureate and draped bust of Marianne, personification of the French Republic, her long hair flowing beneath an oak and olive wreath. The bust is rendered in high relief in the neoclassical style characteristic of Montagny's work. The legend RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE curves along the upper periphery, divided on either side of the effigy. The engraver's signature MONTAGNY appears in small capitals along the lower rim beneath the truncation. A fine toothed border frames the entire field. |
