Obverse description Laureate head of Marianne, personification of the French Republic, facing left, her flowing hair rendered in high relief with fine classical detail. At the truncation, a fasces with an axe and bound rods is visible, symbolizing republican authority. The engraver's signature DANTZELL F. appears in the lower exergue. The legend REPUBLIQUE flanks the left field and FRANCAISE the right, both reading upward along the inner border. A toothed border frames the entire design.
