Obverse description The obverse of this lead control proof reproduces the Marianne effigy as designed by Henri Lagriffoul for the standard 10 centimes coinage, set within a plain field. The bust of Marianne, the allegorical figure of the French Republic, appears in left-facing profile, wearing a Phrygian cap. The legend REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE is inscribed along the upper periphery. The piece is embedded in a thick, irregular lead matrix characteristic of avers control proofs, which encases the struck disc completely and preserves the impression for official review.
Obverse script Latin
Obverse lettering REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE
