Obverse description The obverse features the rampant Lion of Belgium rendered in high relief at center, set against a finely engine-turned crosshatch background. The lion faces left with forepaws raised, standing atop a small plinth bearing the engraver's name BRAEMT. The peripheral legend EENDRACHT MAAKT MACHT (Unity Makes Strength) arcs around the upper field in bold raised lettering, while the date flanked by two five-pointed stars appears in the lower exergual area. A continuous beaded border encircles the entire design.
