| Obverse description | A left-facing draped bust of King Léopold I occupies the center of the obverse, rendered in high relief with fine portraiture detail. A circular legend in French runs along the rim, identifying the monarch by name and title. The engraver's initials appear below the truncation of the neck, and the date 1853 is positioned in the lower portion of the field. The overall design reflects the restrained classical style characteristic of mid-nineteenth-century Belgian medallic art. |

Struck to mark the marriage of Philippe, Duke of Brabant — heir to the Belgian throne — to Marie Henriette of Austria on August 22, 1853, this is a medal-coin hybrid issued outside the regular currency series, hence its X# classification. Leopold I was by then in the twilight of his reign, and the marriage carried dynastic weight: Marie Henriette was an Austro-Hungarian archduchess, and the union was partly engineered to shore up Belgian diplomatic standing between its more powerful neighbors.
The Mor#3a and 3b distinctions reflect known die variants, likely differing in edge treatment or minor legend spacing — collectors should verify against Morin's reference directly.
