| Obverse description | Within a broad flat rim, a raised central disk bears a bareheaded effigy of Marianne facing slightly left, her hair loosely gathered and falling to her shoulders, rendered in a restrained Neoclassical style by engraver Dubois. The legend REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE curves along the upper periphery of the outer rim in bold incuse capital letters. The date 1909 appears in the lower field of the rim, below the central disk. The design is notable for its distinctive two-plane format, with the portrait set within a recessed or raised inner medallion contrasting with the wide outer border. |
