Giesecke & Devrient prepared this note for the Banco de la República Oriental del Uruguay's inaugural series, but the 10 Centésimos was never placed into circulation — the denomination was apparently deemed redundant before distribution began. The bank itself had only been established by law in 1896, making this one of the earliest pieces commissioned for what was intended to be Uruguay's first state-owned central banking institution.
Unissued remainders from G&D's Leipzig production occasionally surface with full margins and intact watermarks, having bypassed any handling entirely.
