Campo P.G. n. 43 at Garessio, in the Ligurian Alps of Piedmont, was one of dozens of Italian internment camps established for Allied prisoners after Italy's entry into the war in June 1940. Camp scrip of this type was introduced to prevent prisoners from accumulating Italian currency that could facilitate escape — a policy driven less by financial logic than by security doctrine. The notes circulated only within the wire, redeemable at the camp canteen and nowhere else.
Maggiore Camillo Redaelli's signature as issuing authority is the sharpest identifier for attribution within the broader Italian P.O.W. scrip series, where many camps produced nearly identical formats under different commands.
