The Constitutionalist Army coinage of Chihuahua emerged from one of the most chaotic monetary environments in Mexican history. By 1915, the Revolution had so thoroughly disrupted the national banking system that competing factions — Villistas, Carrancistas, Zapatistas — were each issuing their own currency, much of it rejected outright by the populations forced to use it. Chihuahua was Pancho Villa's stronghold, and the state's copper emissions were a direct attempt to maintain some functional local economy as the División del Norte's fortunes were beginning to turn against him.
Villa's catastrophic defeat at Celaya in April 1915 came just as issues like this were circulating.
