| Obverse description | The Nicaraguan national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting an equilateral triangle enclosing five volcanoes rising from the sea beneath a radiant sun and a Phrygian cap atop a staff. The device is rendered in fine detail against a flat field. The legend REPÚBLICA DE NICARAGUA arcs along the upper periphery, while AMÉRICA CENTRAL curves along the lower periphery, both in raised Latin lettering. The entire design is bordered by a continuous ring of beads. |

Nicaragua redenominated its currency in 1988 and again in 1990, collapsing successive córdoba series under the weight of Sandinista-era hyperinflation that peaked above 30,000% annually. The aluminium 10 centavos of the 2007–2015 series belongs to the stabilized córdoba oro system, which had by then been pegged informally to a crawling exchange rate against the US dollar — a policy the Banco Central maintained with unusual discipline for the region.
Aluminium was chosen strictly on cost grounds; the face value of these small-denomination pieces made any base-metal alloy economically impractical to strike.
