Additional information

The two KM numbers here reflect a mid-run modification rather than a redesign — 271.1 and 271.2 differ in the details of the die preparation, a quiet administrative adjustment typical of the Guatemalan mint's working relationship with outside contractors during this period. Guatemala was relying on foreign minting facilities for much of its coinage through the early 1970s, as domestic production capacity remained limited following decades of political instability under successive military governments.
