Obverse description The national arms of Bolivia occupy the central field, enclosed within a beaded circle. The shield displays the rising sun above the peaks of Cerro Rico and Cerro Menor, with a chapel at their base, flanked by a palm tree and a llama. The circular legend REPUBLICA DE BOLIVIA arcs along the upper periphery, while ten five-pointed stars disposed along the lower arc of the beaded circle symbolize the ten departments of Bolivia as constituted prior to the War of the Pacific.
