| Obverse description | The Mexican national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a Mexican golden eagle perched upon a prickly pear cactus growing from a rocky outcrop, devouring a serpent in its beak — a design derived from the Aztec founding legend of Tenochtitlan. The eagle is rendered in fine relief with detailed feathering, its wings partially spread. A garland of oak and laurel branches frames the device at the base.
