Obverse description Central square hole (cash hole) surrounded by a raised inner rim and plain outer rim. Four Chinese ideograms in regular script (kaishu) are arranged symmetrically around the central perforation, reading clockwise from the top: 祥 (Xiang), 寶 (Bao), 符 (Fu), 元 (Yuan), forming the reign title and denomination inscription 祥符元寶. The calligraphy is crisp and well-proportioned, characteristic of Northern Song dynasty cast coinage. The fields show the natural texture of iron casting.
