Additional information

Urumchi (Ürümqi) mint production in the late 1920s and early 1930s was erratic by any measure — the facility operated under shifting warlord authority as Sinkiang cycled through governors with little loyalty to Nanking. The Type 2 designation within Y#40 reflects die modifications made during ongoing production, likely the result of local engravers working without access to standardized tools or templates from central mint authorities.

By 1930, Yang Zengxin had already been assassinated and Jin Shuren had taken control of the province, tightening his grip on Urumchi's economic infrastructure. Cash production here served immediate local demand rather than any coordinated national currency policy.
