Above the square hole appears the Chinese character 當 (dāng, meaning 'value of'), and below the hole the Chinese character 十 (shí, meaning 'ten'), together indicating a denomination of ten cash. The reverse field is plain and undecorated, with a raised rim, consistent with standard Qing dynasty cast cash coinage.
