Obverse description Central square hole surrounded by a raised inner rim and a broad flat field. Four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) are arranged radially around the central perforation, read in the traditional order of top, bottom, right, left: 洪 (Hóng), 武 (Wǔ), 通 (Tōng), 寶 (Bǎo), forming the legend 'Hongwu Tongbao' — referencing the Hongwu Emperor's reign title and meaning 'universal currency of the Hongwu era'. The characters are bold and deeply cast within the field, framed by a raised outer rim. The overall style is consistent with early Ming dynasty cash coinage, exhibiting vigorous, well-formed strokes characteristic of the period.
