Obverse description Central field features four large Chinese ideograms arranged in a cruciform pattern reading top to bottom and right to left, with a decorative rosette or floral ornament at the centre. Manchu script characters flank the central panel on either side, while additional Chinese ideograms appear in the upper and lower margins forming the provincial and denominational legends. The overall layout is highly symmetrical, consistent with the machine-struck imperial cash coinage of the late Qing dynasty.
