| Obverse description | Central field features four large Chinese characters arranged vertically in two columns, reading right to left and top to bottom, denoting the reign title Guangxu and the denomination Yuanbao. These are surrounded by an outer ring of smaller Chinese characters conveying the provincial origin (Shantung) and the denomination equivalent in cash. Notably, this variant omits the Manchu script legend typically found on comparable issues. The design is framed by a plain border, with all inscriptions rendered in incuse relief against a flat field. |
