Obverse description Central field bears four large Chinese ideograms arranged in a cruciform pattern reading top to bottom and right to left, flanked by Manchu script characters at centre. The entire central device is encircled by a continuous ring of Chinese ideograms forming the full inscription. The legend identifies the issuing province, the reign era of the Guangxu Emperor, the denomination, and the mint, rendered in the formal official script typical of late Qing dynasty coinage. A beaded inner border separates the central legends from the outer inscription band.
