| Obverse description | Central field bears four large Chinese characters reading 光緒元寶 (Guangxu Yuanbao) arranged around a central rosette or floral ornament. The upper portion of the coin carries the provincial inscription 湖北省造 (Made in Hubei Province) in Chinese, with Manchu script flanking the sides. The lower field features the denomination inscription 當十 (Equal to Ten). The entire central design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, itself surrounded by an outer beaded border following the coin's rim. |

| Reverse description | The reverse displays two sinuous imperial dragons rendered in high relief, their scaled bodies coiling dynamically around a central flaming pearl. A small sea creature or serpent is depicted amid the turbulent waters at the lower centre. The entire design is framed by a plain recessed border and an outer beaded rim, with no additional lettering on this face. |
