Obverse description The obverse features large Chinese and Manchu characters arranged across the central field, reading 光緒元寶 (Guangxu Yuanbao) in the center with the Manchu script for Boo-chang (the mint name) flanking centrally. The upper peripheral legend reads 江西省造 (Made in Kiangsi Province) and the lower peripheral legend reads 庫平當十 (Ku-Ping worth ten cash). The inscriptions are separated from the rim by a continuous inner beaded border, with a plain raised outer rim encircling the entire design. The lettering is bold and deeply struck in a recessed field typical of provincial Qing dynasty machine-struck copper coinage.
