Obverse description Central field bears four large Chinese characters reading 光緒元寶 (Guangxu Yuanbao, 'Precious Currency of the Guangxu Era'), arranged vertically in two columns flanking a small decorative rosette at centre. The upper arc of the inner beaded circle carries the two-character legend 江西 (Kiangsi) with 省 (Province) at upper centre and 造 (Mint) to the left, identifying the issuing province. Manchu script ᠪᠣᠣ ᠴᠠᠩ (Boo-chang) appears horizontally to the left within the field. The denomination 當十 (Equal to Ten) is inscribed at the bottom of the inner field. The design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle and a toothed outer border.
