Obverse description Central field bears four large Chinese characters arranged in a cruciform pattern reading 光緒元寶 (Guangxu Yuanbao, meaning 'Guangxu Original Currency'), with a small decorative rosette at the center. Flanking the central characters on the left and right are Manchu script characters reading 'Boo-an', denoting the Anhwei Mint. The upper arc of the inner beaded circle carries the five Chinese characters 安徽省造 (Made in Anhwei Province), while the lower arc reads 當制錢十文 (Equal to ten cash). The entire design is enclosed within a dotted inner border and an outer milled rim.
